PORO’ROG, tupi verb “thunder”. The assemble of Mutilated Tits’ Army makes a thunderclap in the river. The colonizer has mistaken the Ykamiaba warriors with the Greek Amazons, who would have cut off their right tits to wage war. The tits return to combat.

Pós-vida das tetas imaginada a partir da fricção das lendas grega e tupi sobre mulheres guerreiras. PORO’ROG, verbo “estrondar” do tupi. A organização do exército das tetas mutiladas faz um estrondo no rio. O colonoizador confundiu as guerreiras Ykamiabas com as Amazonas gregas, que teriam cortado suas tetas direitas para guerrear. As tetas retornam para o combate.

Theremin concert for an absent audience at Federal University of Pernambuco’s acoustic shell, Recife, Pernamubuco, Brazil, 2016.

Being into an acoustic shell in disuse she produces sounds with a theremin moving her tits. Highlighting the utopian and bankrupt dimension of a modernity project printed on architecture in Brazil, the film confronts and subverts the white of the shell with the black of the body and the artist’s clothing; the silence and the void of the shell with the electronic sound provoked by her tits.

]]>Dona Teta Lírica‘Make it heard’ (Volume I, II and III)2019-12-07T14:16:00+00:002019-12-07T14:16:00+00:00http://tetalirica.com.br/teta/2019/12/07/make-it-heard‘Make it heard’ (Volume I, II and III) is a compilation of contemporary sonic production in Brazil, in areas such as improvisation; installation; instrument-building; new media; performance art; electroacoustic music; poetry; radio art; and vocal experimentation. Most of the selected works came from ‘Making it Heard: A History of Brazilian Sound Art’ (Bloomsbury, 2019), a multi-authored volume edited by Rui Chaves and Fernando Iazzetta. In this book, a generation of young scholars discusses a body of artwork that spans almost 60 years, through an attentive ear to material, historical, social and political circumstances. As most of the artworks discussed are not available to the public, we tried to offer to the potential reader/listener a sample of the recent Brazilian sound art production. The title ‘Making it Heard’ indicates the context in which this production takes place, oscillating between the persistence of a colonial and patriarchal structure and the pursuit of a libertarian and democratic perspective. ‘Make it Heard’ expresses a sense of urgency in making this body of work audible, one that we hope to continue in the next few years: recovering, archiving and publishing Brazilian production in this field.
